Volunteer in Norwalk
September 15, 2018
There’s something about volunteering that’s good for you. At The Waypointe, you’re surrounded by opportunities to reach out and give your community a boost.
You get even more out of the experience when you're doing what you enjoy. Luckily, there’s a way to use your skills and talents to make a difference. Here are some volunteering opportunities for everyone in SoNo. Get ready to find an opportunity you love today!
For the Ocean Lovers - Maritime Aquarium
Everything about SoNo is boosted by the power of the ocean, and you can see it everywhere - from the high quality seafood selection in posh restaurants, to Oyster Park, to the ever-popular Oyster Festival. Join the non-profit Maritime Aquariumas a volunteer, and work behind the scenes to ensure visitors have an incredible experience every time they step through the doors. Training begins March 10,2015, so sign up today!
For Homeless Outreach - Open Door Shelter
There are 95 beds here - but the Open Door Shelter provides so much more than just a place to sleep. They seek to get to the root of homelessness, unemployment - and launched a program to address just that. This is one of those organizations where you can be creative in the way you help, and you are invited to get others involved. Volunteers have collected needed supplies to donate, and one child even donated his birthday presents. Help decorate, donate time - whatever you hope to do, call Open Door today to discuss the details.
For the Kid at Heart - Stepping Stones Museum
If you enjoy working with kids, the Stepping Stones Museum is the spot for you. For 5-10 hours each month, use your creativity and enjoy the company of mini creatives, as you help them learn all about art, science, culture, and literacy. Sign up via their website.
For the Scrubs Enthusiast - Norwalk Hospital
If working in a hospital was one of your childhood dreams, or you’re currently studying to become a nurse, doctor, or tech - you can have a huge impact at the Norwalk Hospital. Choose jobs based on your comfort level: Green Jobs involve intense patient contact, Blue Jobs involve light patient contact, and Red Jobs are mainly clerical. In addition, there are plenty of other opportunities to get involved. Just get in touch with the volunteer team today!
For the Animal Lover - PAWS CT
The biggest need - aside from “snuggling a shy kitten, walking a dog, fundraising or doing those dirty jobs like laundry & cleaning kennels” - is the need for a consistent volunteer. This isn’t a job for those of us who are too busy (or get too tired to follow through). Schedule an orientation to find out where you can help most, and what works best for you!
Whatever you do, don’t not check out one of these great opportunities! They’re too good to pass up, and you’ll improve the quality of your life as you help out those around SoNo! Invite your friends and neighbors at The Waypointe to join you. If you haven’t yet joined the Waypointe community, get in touch with us today to discuss the pros of living in booming SoNo, Connecticut!
