The Best of Downtown Stamford
April 17, 2019
As anyone in the apartments for rent in Stamford, CT, could tell you, this town is full of special charm and mystique. The seventh-largest city in New England, it has its combination of small town appeal and cosmopolitan flair, as one trip to Stamford’s beautiful downtown will quickly reveal. Combining big-name retail, the local university campus, major corporate headquarters, hotels, restaurants, and more, this expansive city district seems to have something for everyone, and soon, you’ll have a great excuse to head out and explore the wonders of downtown for yourself, thanks to Experience Stamford Downtown.
Coming May 9th through May 11th, this celebration of downtown is designed to “showcase the downtown offerings,” and will feature three full days of fun events that will get you acquainted with all that downtown has to offer. Today, we’ll be going through the list, and giving you a bit of insight on what to expect so you can plan your visit.
Events on Thursday, May 9th
Afternoon of Design at NOBU Florist
The NOBU Florist is Stamford’s local leader in cultivating and delivering fabulous flowers and fine bouquets. With so much knowledge in the flower game, it makes sense they’d be hosting “An Afternoon of Design,” a fun group class designed to teach interested individuals how to create the perfect flower arrangements — right on time for Mother’s Day.
Fashion Show at the Stamford Town Center
The Stamford Town Center is a massive, 853,000 square-foot mall in Downtown Stamford. With room for tons of stores, restaurants, and more, it comes as no surprise that this is one of the area’s premiere shopping destinations, and that they’ll be using their space to host a Spring Fashion Show, complete with a DJ, MC, and local celebrity models.
Summer Vibes in Latham Park
Latham Park lies right near the Avon Theater and down the street from the Prospect Market. It’s a lovely outdoor space, and as a part of Experience Stamford Downtown, they’ll be helping the Stamford YMCA host their “Bollywood” exercise class. With a name like that, expect plenty in the way of both dancing and high-impact energy.
Far Away Places Reception at Ferguson Library
The Stamford Art Association was established in 1971 to represent the dedicated artists of the Stamford community, and puts on regular exhibits showcasing the work of these dedicated craftsmen. The reception for their next exhibit, Far Away Places, will be taking place at the Ferguson Library Auditorium on the third floor.
Events on Friday, May 10th
Painting Lessons at U&I Deco
Painting lessons will make for a relaxing time out in town, and you’ll be able to try your hand at using acrylics to create your own flowery masterpieces at U&I Deco, the custom framing and art restoration experts in Downtown Stamford. Space will be limited on this event, so be sure to reserve your spot well in advance.
The Bedford Street Retailer Stroll
Bedford Street is well known for having some great retail options, and they’ll be participating in Experience Downtown Stamford by hosting an evening stroll where you’re encouraged to visit some of your favorites, along with the notable pop-ups that will be in attendance for the event.
Party at the Residence Inn
Few Hotels are as lovely as the Residence Inn, one of the town’s first extended stay hotels, and a rather luxurious one to boot, with its own 2,000 square-foot fitness center and even a tequila/tapas bar. They’ll be hosting DJ-fueled Happy Hour, along with pop-ups from Pedigree Ski Shop and Spavia Stamford.
Dance Class at the Metropolitan Dance Center
If you’re ready to show off your moves (or learn a few new ones), this latin dance class will be the place for you. You’ll be able to try out some salsa, bachata, merengue, and more at the Metropolitan Dance Center on Bedford Street, and you won’t even need a partner.
Events on Saturday, May 10th
Workout Session at PhatBurn
This will be all the motivation you need to get out and feel the burn. Over at the Ferguson Library, PhatBurn is offering an hour-long HIIT (high intensity interval training) workout class, with high-level trainers in attendance to ensure everything goes along smoothly.
Used Book Sale at Friends of The Ferguson
The Ferguson Library is well known around Stamford for instilling that love of reading and offering a large number of books for residents to check out and enjoy on their own time. The Friends of the Library are the library’s volunteer support group, and they’ll be hosting a used book sale at their store from 11:00AM to 2:00PM.
Catch a Matinee at the Avon
Catching a movie is always great, and for the first matinee you attend at The Avon for this day during Experience Downtown Stamford, you’ll be getting a free small popcorn to go along with the action on the big screen.
TEDx at the Ferguson Library
TEDx events have a reputation for bringing exciting ideas to large audiences, and this one, hosted at the Ferguson Library Auditorium, will focus on the theme of community, with speakers like Emily Nagoski, Alicia Thompson, and Gary White in attendance.
Yoga Class at the Stamford Yoga Center
If you’re ready to do a bit of stretching, the Stamford Yoga Center is ready for you! Right outside the Ferguson Library, they’ll be hosting a class to get anyone who’s interested started on adding Yoga to their daily routine.
Music at Mill River Park
Mill River Park is one of the jewels of Stamford, one that always seems to be renovating and improving. They’re hosting a “surprise musical performance” over by the fountain. Any guesses on who it could be?
Apartments in Stamford Never Seemed So Appealing
With all there is to see and experience near The Waypointe, it’s little wonder these elegant waterfront apartments are so desirable and well-regarded. It’s easy to get around from here too, so all the greatest hangouts in Southern Connecticut are well within reach too. It’s the sort of luxurious seaside lifestyle anyone could get used to, so why not take the next step and see how to become a part of this fabulous community?
