Healthy Restaurants in Norwalk
May 19, 2015
You don’t have to be a nutritionist to appreciate healthy, delicious food. Not only does it make your body feel great when you consume a healthy meal, but it can also tantalize your tastebuds! Here are some of our favorite healthy restaurants in Norwalk where you’ll eat your brussels sprouts - and enjoy them, too. (Really!)
The Lime Restaurant | 168 Main Avenue
“Eat Healthy, Live Well” - it’s the mantra of this anything-but-bland healthy restaurant in Norwalk. Since 1979, The Lime has been serving up dishes to die for - and they’ve won plenty of awards in recognition of this difficult feat. Vegetarian? Skip the salad and go for the Vegetable Phyllo - a delicate blend of fresh vegetables, sunflower seeds and cheddar, wrapped in a light pastry dough and baked until golden brown. On the side, enjoy organize brown and wild rice, veggies, whole grain bread, and yes, a garden salad. If you’re a meat eater, go for the Grilled NY Strip wasabi-dijon, served with a spicy sauce and brown and wild rice, veggies, and whole grain bread. Whatever you choose, really, you can’t go wrong.
Savor | 430 Main Ave
Savor is a healthy pizza place. You read that right. Yes, it’s possible to eat healthy and still enjoy your favorite foods! Hooray! Enjoy 100% handmade natural organic pizzas, like the classic Margherita with chopped plum tomatoes, fresh basil, fresh garlic, first cold pressed extra virgin olive oil, topped with pecorino romano and fresh mozzarella cheeses. The Sausalito is another show-stopper, with baby portobello mushrooms taking center stage, with roasted garlic and red peppers, artichoke hearts, goat cheese, light mozzarella, and a to-die-for basil pesto sauce. Can’t stay in? Take and bake one of their frozen options.
Saffron Indian Cuisine | 333 Westport Avenue
Indian cuisine is generally pretty healthy, full of spices to cleanse and renew your body - as well as many vegetable options due to the cultural and religious beliefs of many Indians. At Saffron, enjoy the Chana Masala, with garbanzo beans slowly cooked and simmered in a sauce made of spices, onion, and tomatoes. The fragrant blends will have you swooning over...yes, this very healthy dish! Bhuna Chicken is a flavorful alternative to the (more creamy) Chicken Tikka Masala, and the Vegetable Biryani - with seasonal vegetables, nuts, raisins, spices, herbs, garnished with saffron & fried onions - is one of the most famous dishes of India, which takes hours to prepare. It’s basically the opposite of fast food. (Luckily, they prepare that before you arrive.) If you’re having a “cheat” meal, you can’t top some fluffy, buttery pull-apart naan bread.
BJ Ryan’s Banc House | 16 River Street
Is it possible to eat healthy at a BBQ spot? Well, we think so, especially at BJ Ryan's Banc House. Skip the BBQ Feast ($59.95), and go for the tender pulled chicken. Make sure sauce is on the side, and use as needed to create an explosive flavor experience. Still hungry? Add on corn and black bean chowder or refreshing chilled tomato and cucumber gazpacho.
