    Connecticut Wines Holidays

    November 17, 2015

When you’re flat out of gift ideas, there’s always wine. And when it’s Connecticut wine, you can’t go wrong!
This year, take a breather from the non-stop festivities in Norwalk, and get out to some Connecticut wineries for the weekend! There are plenty all over the state, but we’ve narrowed them down to 4 outstanding spots that are under an hour away (driving) from your luxury home in Norwalk, CT.
Read on, relax, and never lack a last-minute gift again.

    Jones Family Farms Winery

(606 Walnut Tree Hill Road, Shelton, CT)

37 minute drive from The Waypointe

Hours: Winery sales are seven days a week, from 10 am to 5:30 pm (11 am on Sundays)

The Jones Family Farms Winery is closest to home, but that’s not the only reason we love it.
The wine here starts with grapes grown in rich soil on sunny southwestern-facing slopes, guided to perfect ripeness by a 6th generation farmer. This spot has won the title of “Best Connecticut Wine” in 2010, 2011, and 2012, and the “Best Connecticut Vineyard” in 2013. Check out their wine list beforehand, which includes everything from a Black Currant Bouquet dessert wine to a dry and delicate Pinot Gris. Prepare to taste a little piece of Connecticut history.

    DiGrazia Vineyards

(131 Tower Road, Brookfield Connecticut US 06804)

46 minute drive from The Waypointe

Hours: 11AM to 5PM 7 days a week--winter hours for January through March are 11AM to 5PM (Saturdays and Sundays Only)

This family-owned vineyard might be small, but their wine selection is impressive! DiGrazia Vineyards offers unique picks like Autumn Spice, Honey Blush, Blacksmith Port, and Wild Blue--curious what these taste like? Get there for a tasting. It’s only $9.40 to try 6 different blends. If you’re lucky, you’ll get to enjoy some live music with your wine.

    McLaughlin Vineyards

(14 Albert's Hill Road, Sandy Hook, CT 06482)

48 minute drive from The Waypointe

    Hours: Thursday-Saturday 11:00 am - 5:00 pm, Sunday 12:00 - 5:30 pm (Closed Monday & Tuesday)

McLaughlin Vineyards is a great place to wander on the weekend with friends. During the summer, there are plenty of concerts to keep you entertained, and the staff is very knowledgeable—they’ll help you make the right choice on your wine picks. Stop by and grab a bottle of wine at the retail shop, where you can also grab cheese and snacks to go with it.

    White Solo Farm and Winery

    (32 Rt. 37 E. Sherman, Ct 06784)

57 minute drive from The Waypointe

Hours: wine tastings April - December, Friday (12-8pm), Saturday (11am-6pm), Sunday (11am-6pm) and major holidays (11am-6pm)

This is a boutique winery that specializes in “small batch fruit and grape wine production.” All of the wines on their list, whether they’re sparkling, dry, semi-sweet, or sangria, offer delicate fruit flavors that will appeal to a broad audience. If you’re looking for traditional wines, this may not be your stop. Regardless, they’ll soon be offering an online store, so if you want to test out a bottle before buying as gifts, you won’t have to go further than your phone or computer!

Can’t drive too far in bad weather? No worries. There are places close to home where you can find great Connecticut wines. Check them out Total Wine & More
or stop by Stew Leonard’s Wines.
