Celebrate Halloween Stamford
October 30, 2017
The serene shores of the Long Island Sound offer much for residents. A rich history, the beauty and splendor of the Waterside Design District, pristine apartments for rent in Stamford, CT—all of these things and more play a part in the area's charm. During the Halloween months, though, appeal goes even deeper than that. There's a ton going on in Stamford, New Haven, and around Fairfield County, from parties to tours and beyond. If you're keen on heading out for Halloween, keep your eyes peeled for some of these great options that are sure to provide plenty of fun and entertainment as you celebrate the night(s) away.
Here's A Sampling Of What's Going On In The Fairfield County Area
What fits your fancy? Are you interested in the restaurant and bar scene? Do you prefer to be out among the elements? Perhaps you're more into learning about the area's spooky history? Whatever floats your boat, you're liable to come across an option to satisfy your urges in the days leading up to Halloween.
Halloween Costume Party At The Seaside Tavern
The Seaside Tavern on Cove Road is Stamford's, and perhaps the entirety of Fairfield County's top choice for authentic live music. They've been rocking the coast with fiery sounds for more than five decades, with a diverse mix of original and cover bands, along with spirted live jam shows as well.
On Friday, October 27th, they'll be hosting their Halloween Costume Party, complete with a thrilling lineup of talented performers. Hosted by Lobsterface, the event will also have The Ratz, Matt & The Marauders, and Sonic Superchargers gracing the stage. From 9PM-2AM you'll be able to see these bands tear up the house. Costumes are not only encouraged, they'll be rewarded. Those donning "awesome" Halloween duds will be getting some special prizes, courtesy of the bands and the staff at Seaside Tavern.
Halloween Party Tiernan's
Tiernan's Bar is right on Main Street in the city of Stamford. It's the town's longest running (and favorite) Irish Pub, and another great spot for live music and fun times. They'll also be hosting a Halloween Party, taking place on October 28th. The featured band is Billy And The Barfights, who will be performing at 9PM. The party will also have giveaways, prizes, and cash for the best costumers, so be sure to don your most creative Halloween threads when you show up for this epic shindig.
Halloween Hay Bale Theater
If you'd like to check out some movies with the kids, and don't mind making the short drive down the road to Newington, you can head to Stew Leonard's for the aptly titled "Hay Bale Theater." The Garden Shoppe will be transformed into a children's themed Halloween movie paradise with complimentary juice and popcorn served to all.
The event, which starts at Friday night at 7PM, is free to attend. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis, and the featured film is Mickey Mouse Clubhouse: Mickey's Treat. Before the cinema starts, the kids can also get down and dance to some Halloween music, and pal around with all their favorite costumed Stew's characters.
Deluxe Sleepy Hollow Halloween Tour
The drive to Sleepy Hollow is about 22 miles, but for the Halloween Tour, it's well worth the effort:
"We have designed a delectable day of fun and silliness to celebrate that now worldwide holiday, Halloween, in its very birthplace, Sleepy Hollow, New York."
Led by the suitably frightening guide, Polly Esther, the tour will take attendees from the Irvington train station to Sunnyside, then to Irvingtown where they will get to see the home of the legendary author of The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow, Washington Irving.
There will be a picnic lunch (Autumn themed, of course) along the Sunnyside grounds overlooking the Hudson River, and a stop through historic Tarrytown for a walk down Main Street and additional refreshments. Being a Sleepy Hollow Tour, guests will get to see the Sleepy Hollow Cemetery itself, see Irving's resting place, and hear a rendition of the chilling tale as well.
That's not all the tour will have to offer, though. There will also be a chance to see the village of Philipsburg Manor, now transformed into the frightening Horseman's Hollow, and Van Cortlandt Manor, where a grand finale of thousands of brightly burning Jack O'Lanterns will surely impress.
This particular tour is for adults only, but costumes are still highly encouraged (prizes will go to the best dressed, naturally). Tickets run for $377, but the investment is well worth the day long adventure and the memories gained from this iconic Halloween thrill will last a lifetime.
Witches, Vampires, And Ghosts Tour
If the price tag for Sleepy Hollow is a bit steep, you might instead try the Witches, Vampires, And Ghosts Tour at the Lockwood-Matthews Mansion Museum in Norwalk. The mansion-museum has been a National Historic Landmark since 1971, "regarded as one of the earliest and most significant Second Empire Style country houses in the United States." There's plenty of history here, and history is what will be explored on the upcoming tour.
This tour "will focus on the history of witchcraft from colonial times to the Victorian era, highlighting the New England Vampire Panic and other dark tales." As you might expect from such an adventure, costumed staff, dressed as witches, ghosts, and vampires will lurk the grounds as you proceed, adding a layer of fright and excitement to the whole event. The tour is open to children, but those under 16 must be accompanied by a guardian.
