10 Reasons Love Colony Grill
October 27, 2015
In 1935, history was made when a post-Prohibition tavern named “Colony Grill” opened in an Irish neighborhood in Stamford, Connecticut.
In 2015, history was made again...
...when Colony Grill opened in Norwalk’s Waypointe District. What sets them apart from other great pizza joints in Norwalk]? Thin, crispy crusts and one magical ingredient. It's a spicy, peppery “hot oil” drizzled on top of your pie, and it's life-altering.
Well, that’s not all that sets them apart. That’s why we’ve taken the time to pen the top 10 reasons we love Colony Grill--and why you need to head there ASAP.
1. They’re right downstairs.
We almost don’t want to share the location so we can have them all to ourselves--but word’s bound to get out. At 515 West Avenue, right here at the Waypointe District, you’ll discover pizza heaven, open from 11:30am until late, depending on the night (on Fridays and Saturdays, they’re open until at least 12:30am, and weeknights around 11:30.)
Yet another reason to never leave The Waypointe.
2. The menu is perfectly simple.
Why mess with a good thing? The folks at Colony Grill have taken this mantra to heart. Although Colony Grill actually used to have a grill--and quite a few more items on its menu--they discovered that pizza is their niche, and they’re sticking to it. In a world full of choices and options, it’s a relief to know that you can count on Colony Grill to keep things simple.
3. Three words: Hot. Oil. Pizza.
Try it. And next time someone asks you what you’d eat for the rest of your life if you could only eat one thing, you’ll have an answer.
4. They actually care about their employees.
They don’t just say this--they’ve actually been named one of Hearst Media’s “Top 50 Workplaces in Connecticut” for 2015, which was based on actual independent survey data from over 800 in-state companies.
To top it off, they participate in and host plenty of fundraisers for our community. Their most recent happening? The 5th Annual Colony Grill Post Road “Hot Oil” 5K happening Sunday, November 8, 2015 in Fairfield to benefit local police and fire departments. (It’s already sold out, but there’s always next year!)
5. Their employees actually care about you.
Happy employees = happy customers. You’ll reap the benefits with fast, friendly service.
6. The Wall of Heroes is heartwarming.
Within each Colony Grill restaurant, you’ll find a “Wall of Heroes” featuring those who’ve served (or are currently serving) in the U.S. Armed Forces. If you’d like to share a photo of yourself or a loved one, you can find information here. This is part of the reason Colony Grill already feels like it’s been here forever.
7. Their gift cards make perfect stocking stuffers.
Or for any occasion. Your boss’s birthday? Gift card. Your nephew’s big football game? Gift card. Your favorite neighbor, just because? Gift card. There isn’t one person on the planet who doesn’t want to get their hands on a gift card for Colony Grill.
8. It’s the best place to watch a game.
There is a complex mathematical equation to calculate the suitability of a bar or restaurant for game-watching. Here it is: good seating + good food and beer + tons of flat screen TVs = best place to watch the big game. Colony Grill definitely fits the requirements, and then some, with 5,600 square feet and seating for 180 people!
9. The bacon/sausage/egg/cheese goodness that is the breakfast pie.
Because sometimes, it’s not enough to just have dinner pizza. Delve into a crispy crust topped with salty bacon, sausage, egg, and cheese. It will keep you satisfied without weighing you down.
10. They’re famous.
By now, you might be halfway out the door and on your way to Colony Grill. And we don’t blame you. After you’re done, write them a review on Yelp. and check out their Facebook page! If you don’t already live at The Waypointe, you’ll want to move in now. There’s so much more that’s going to be popping up in The Waypointe District.
